Tear out your lawn, get more free cash. LADWP ups rebates for customers willing to replace their grass
In an effort to get the most of their millions spent on public works, LADWP is offering their customers a variety of programs designed to keep them using public resources.
Over the past few months, the department has offered their customers a host of rebates through the lawn and landscape division’s (LAND) “Up To Speed” program. The program offers customers cash rebates up to $500 for grass and lawn products that they can replace. LADWP is encouraging customers to replace lawns and gardens in areas where they notice the grass has started to look like “wet cement” or “beach sand” just because they’re tired of mowing, fertilizing, and watering it.
LADWP is also giving customers additional rebates through the “Up To Speed” program for people who want to replace their lawns. The program offers rebates up to $100 cash for lawn products and $100 cash for grass products that are sold in a home improvement store.
Landscape Division Commissioner Tony DeSantis is encouraging people who replace their lawns to get the rebates, even if they are at a small, family-run business.
“I just want people to realize that if they are not having a good lawn, they should be able to replace their lawn,” said DeSantis. “The reason the money is so important is that the money is going into the general fund of the city and our community. By having a lawn or lawn product that has to come back to us, we are able to build houses or businesses or parks or whatever we need. We can’t do the same in a public-only
