Editorial: Michigan voters can show the country how to protect abortion rights
As Republicans gather for the second round of their convention, Michigan voters have the chance to send them a message that they want to protect reproductive rights.
In past elections, Democrats have tried to hide behind the name of abortion rights, claiming we don’t need reproductive rights, but this year is different. Michigan voters can show the country how to protect abortion rights.
This election could mark the final point where abortion rights will be protected from Republican attempts to pass bills to restrict access and shut down abortion clinics. We can help save the status quo, or we can send a message that we’re not ready to give up on abortion rights. I’m going to vote in favor of keeping the status quo.
My vote will send a message that there’s a way to build on reproductive rights, even when Republicans are in charge.
I’m also voting to stop this election from being stolen by the right and giving them more power. Voting for ballot measures, like this, is a way to protect our rights as voters.
It’s not just the GOP, though. Michigan Democrats have done everything they can to steal this election. Democrats are outspending us by a significant margin to get us to turn out to a Democratic primary where our votes are wasted.
It was announced Monday that former Secretary of State Ruth Johnson will be running against Bill Schmude for the nomination. I’m not impressed by either of them.
The only thing that’s left for us to do is to vote for ballot measures like this one – and that’s the only way we can stop this campaign from being stolen by the right, and the only way we can keep our voices heard in the future.
I was happy that the Governor’s race was decided fairly in the gubernatorial primary. I was hoping that I could vote in that race, but it ended up being a close race in which it was a tossup where we lost by 100 votes. I look forward to voting in the final primary on June
